2. Bundesliga Matchday 31 🔎
Matchday 31 of the 2. Bundesliga is coming up, and the first major decisions could already be made. Who can break free from the relegation battle? Who will see their promotion hopes fade? And which teams are already almost certain to go up or down? All of these questions could be answered this matchday..

DĂĽsseldorf vs Dresden
Düsseldorf’s debut under Ende could hardly have gone worse, and there were very few positive signs. They now sit 17th with five consecutive defeats. Dresden, on the other hand, delivered a strong home performance against Bochum and are pushing toward a top-half finish.
Düsseldorf looked too weak, while Dresden has become too stable and consistent. I don’t see Düsseldorf winning this at home. Bobzien is set to record his 10th scorer in 12 games.
Lautern vs Braunschweig
Lautern suffered a heavy defeat against Kiel and are now officially stuck in mid-table with little to play for. Braunschweig had a mixed performance against Hertha, ending in a fairly deserved draw. With Lautern lacking motivation and Braunschweig fighting for survival, I see chances for Braunschweig here. Tempelmann should deliver at least one scorer and help his team to one or even three points.
MĂĽnster vs Bielefeld
For me, Münster are clear relegation favorites. Just one goal in three games under Schwartz is far from enough. Bielefeld also dropped important points at home against Nürnberg. This is a must-win game for Münster as bottom of the table—they need to win at home against a direct rival to stay in touch. I expect a low-scoring game that Münster won’t lose.
Hertha vs Kiel
Hertha fails to win again, ending their last hopes of promotion. Kiel, meanwhile, secured a convincing home win against Lautern and have picked up 10 points from their last four matches, putting them on a strong path toward survival. Despite Kiel’s form, I don’t see them winning in Berlin. A draw would already be a great result for them, while Hertha will push for a win to finish the season strong. Brekalo should score again after serving his suspension.
Karlsruhe vs Hannover
Karlsruhe suffered a heavy loss against Elversberg and are now also stuck in mid-table. Hannover, however, has not lost any of their last four games against direct rivals and will push hard to stay in the promotion race. I don’t see Hannover losing here and give them a good chance to win. A solid defense will be key, but offensively they should score at least twice against Karlsruhe.
Darmstadt vs Elversberg
A crucial moment in the promotion race. If Darmstadt loses at home, promotion is almost out of reach—and I think that’s exactly what will happen. Elversberg looks stronger and more composed, and should win at the Böllenfalltor, securing three vital points in the promotion battle. Pherai is likely to score again and build on his strong performance last week.
NĂĽrnberg vs Magdeburg
NĂĽrnberg has little left to play for, while Magdeburg has shown its quality with three wins in the last four games. Offensively they are clicking, and defensively they are becoming more stable. NĂĽrnberg has only scored two goals in their last three games, and now Zoma is also out, which is a big blow.
I expect Magdeburg not to lose and to score at least twice. With Zukowski suspended, everything will depend on Atik.
Bochum vs FĂĽrth
Fürth secured a crucial last-minute win against Darmstadt, while Bochum is still deeply involved in the relegation battle. Philipp Hofmann would be extremely important for Bochum, but his availability is still uncertain. If he plays, I expect Bochum to win at home and secure survival. If not, Fürth’s attacking strength could give them a real chance here.
Paderborn vs Schalke
It doesn’t get bigger than this: first vs second. Both teams are unbeaten in their last 10 games, and I expect that run to continue. I’m predicting a draw, as neither side will take major risks for all three points. Slight edge to Paderborn, but both teams may be satisfied with a point. If Hannover and Elversberg drop points while Schalke wins, Schalke’s direct promotion would be almost secured.
